Paint protection film

DRESDEN paint protection film carries a 7-year warranty against yellowing, cracking, lifting and delamination. In practice, a well-maintained installation on a garaged car regularly passes ten years. Cars left outdoors year-round in strong UV sit at the lower end of that range.

Yes, within limits. The elastomeric top coat re-flows with heat, so swirl marks, wash marks and light fingernail scratches close up under warm water, direct sunlight or a heat gun. Damage that has cut through the film to the adhesive layer will not heal — that is the film having done its job instead of your paint.

No. The pressure-sensitive adhesive is engineered to release with heat and leave no residue. Factory paint that has spent years under film is normally in better condition than the panels around it, because it has been shielded from UV, abrasion and chemical fallout the whole time.

Absolutely, and most of the cars we film are not new. We inspect the paint first and correct it where needed — film is optically clear, so anything left underneath is sealed in and magnified. If a panel has been resprayed, we need it to have fully cured, which typically means 30 days after the respray.

It depends on how the car is used. Roughly 90 % of stone chip damage arrives on the front bumper, bonnet leading edge, wings, mirrors and headlamps, which is why the Front Impact package exists. Cars that see motorway miles or track weekends benefit from rocker panels and rear arches. Full body is the right answer for collector cars and anything with paint that is expensive to replicate.

Choosing

They solve different problems. Paint protection film is a physical barrier measured in hundreds of micrometres: it stops stone chips and scratches. Ceramic coating is a chemical barrier measured in single micrometres: it stops etching and makes cleaning easy, but it will not absorb an impact. The strongest combination is film on the impact zones with coating applied over the top of everything.

Usually, and it is also reversible. A quality respray requires stripping, prep, paint, cure and reassembly, and permanently changes the car’s documented colour. A wrap goes on over the existing paint, protects it while it is there, comes off cleanly, and lets you return the car to factory specification before selling.

Yes, and it is our most requested combination. The usual order is correction, then paint protection film on impact zones, then colour-change film or decals where wanted, then graphene coating over the whole surface to seal it. Each layer is chosen to be chemically compatible with the one underneath.

Colour-change film

Cast wrap film is warranted for 5 years. Vertical panels such as doors and wings typically outlast horizontal ones, because bonnets and roofs take the full UV and heat load. Keeping the car garaged or coated over the film extends the life considerably.

In most jurisdictions a significant colour change must be declared to your insurer and recorded on the vehicle registration. We provide documentation of the finish and coverage; confirming the requirement is the owner’s responsibility and it takes one phone call.

Chips, yes — we fill and level them first, otherwise the film telegraphs every one. Peeling clear coat or failing paint, no. Wrap film adheres to the top layer of whatever it is applied to; if that layer is already lifting, the film will pull it off on removal. We will inspect and tell you honestly before quoting.

Graphene coating

Heat dispersion. A pure SiO₂ layer holds surface heat, which is the mechanism behind water spotting on dark panels in summer. The graphene network spreads that energy across a wider area so mineral-rich droplets evaporate before they can etch. It also adds a measurable increase in slickness and gloss depth.

No — it means washing is far quicker and far safer. Dirt has much less to hold onto, so a rinse removes most of it and a single-bucket contact wash finishes the job without inducing swirls. What a coating removes is the need to polish and wax; it does not remove the need to clean.

Yes, with a formulation tuned for TPU and PVC rather than clear coat. Over matte film it restores slickness and makes the surface far easier to clean without adding gloss. We also seal every cut line and edge, which is where contamination normally starts.

Booking and care

A front-end film package is one to two days. Full-body film runs three to four days. A full colour change is three to six days depending on how much disassembly the model needs. Coating adds one to two days for correction and cure. We agree the window in writing before you book.

Wait seven days before the first wash so the adhesive and any coating reach full cure. After that, hand wash with a pH-neutral shampoo and two buckets. Avoid automatic brush washes entirely, and keep pressure washers at a distance from film edges.

For film, sensible washing and no abrasive polishing over the edges. For coating, an annual inspection at our bay, which is included in the Signature package. We record each inspection against your warranty so there is never a dispute about coverage later.

Motorcycles regularly — tanks, fairings and panniers take stone chips harder than cars do. Marine and aviation surfaces are quoted case by case, because the substrate and the certification requirements are different from automotive paint.

Yes. The warranty is registered against the vehicle as well as the owner, and transfers with a documented sale at no cost. Buyers consistently treat a registered film and coating history as evidence of a well-kept car.

Use the contact form with the make, model, year and the finish you are considering, and attach photos of the car if you have them. You will get a written, itemised quote and a realistic booking window — including a recommendation to spend less if that is genuinely the better call.
